Wanting more from life sometimes gets us out of bed in the morning. It’s what keeps us moving forward and hoping for something different. It’s not about pleading with the clouds and stars to send you a pony.
It’s also not about wanting more from life and pounding your head against the wall, waiting to get it in anxiety and impatience.
Wanting more from life can give you more purpose and reason in the right mindset. It can bring new energy to your whole world. It can also give you an incredible upgrade to your experience of being here. Most people need a reason, a permission slip for wanting more from life. 7 Clear and Easy Steps When You Feel Stuck In Life
There are some common denominators that seem to push most people forward to wanting more from their life. These reasons tend to make us reevaluate things such as how we spend our time, our money, and choose our priorities.
They encourage us to get creative in new ways to make things bigger or better or both. In our many years of working with people, the inspirations seem to navigate to primary motivations.
We’ve noticed they narrow down to 4 reasons why wanting more from life is a really great thing. See if any of them are calling you.
Reason 1: Big Beginnings And Endings.
There is a reason that birthdays that end in 5 and 0 seem to matter so much. They speak to us. It’s a place to take a knee and check the scoreboard. Is this where I thought I would be at 30, 35, 40, 105?
Is this who I thought I would be and what I thought I would have? Something about those 5 and 0 birthdays usually represents the end of something and the beginning of something else. Beginnings and endings are a reason that typically pushes us to want more from life.
It doesn’t even have to be OUR big beginning or end. Sadly, it’s sometimes someone’s passing. We stand at the funeral home saying, “but he was so young.” Yes, another time to “take a knee and check the scoreboard.”
Someone else’s ending makes us look at our mortality and wonder what our legacy will be. What are we leaving behind that will matter to anyone else when we are gone?
Sometimes someone else’s accomplishments can lead us toward wanting more from life. When we see someone just like us only living a bigger, better, or more meaningful life than ours…time to check that scoreboard again.
We think to ourselves, “If they can do that, maybe I can too” When someone’s perspective of possibilities looks like a Marvel movie compared to ours, we begin to reevaluate. This wanting more from life is a really great thing because it motivates us and inspires us. It redefines what limitation is for us.
Reason 2: “When Do I Get To Do What I Want To Do?” I Want More From Life.
Everyone says this to themselves at some point. “When do I get to do what I want to do?” “When is it my turn?” “I’ve been a good girl and done what they said I was supposed to do” It’s usually said just before wanting to know when the hell their recess or their blankie and nap is going to show up this afternoon.
A 1990’s Reba McIntire song, “Is There Life Out There,” speaks to that question. “She’s done what she should. Should she do what she dares?” That’s pretty much what it feels like when you are asking, “When do I get to do what I want to do?”
This reason makes us want more from life. You know you can do more, have more, and be more wherever you are starting. Often people don’t get what they want because they don’t know what they want.
This reason helps anyone think, “Here’s what I have.” “What do I want out of life?” That’s why it’s a great thing. It insists that you answer the question. 7 Clear and Easy Steps When You Feel Stuck In Life
Reason 3: Wondering, “Is This All There Is?” Yes, I’m Still Wanting More From Life.
Sometimes the reason that starts us wanting more from life isn’t from not having what we want. Instead, it comes from having a beautiful life that anyone would wish to have…but it still feels like something is missing.
The something missing not only creates a wanting for more in life. It can create a feeling of guilt. It causes thoughts of, “I have so much, how could I want more? It’s like we think there is a quota for how much good stuff we are allowed. Once you meet that number, no extra cookie for you.
That’s not how it works. Just because you have a good job, great kids, a healthy body, AND an awesome spouse doesn’t mean you can’t want more from life. So if you feel a calling…an empty space, look at that need?
As you figure out what that need is, know that you aren’t taking 20 items in the 15 item grocery line. You aren’t breaking a rule or asking for more than your share. You are allowed more in life as much as anyone. When you know what “MORE” is for you, don’t hesitate to find it, cultivate it and enjoy it. 7 Clear and Easy Steps When You Feel Stuck In Life
Reason 4: Following The Law Of Requisite Variety When Wanting More From Life.
You may not have heard of the Law of Requisite Variety. It is a science term in Cybernetics, the study of systems. It refers to all systems from electrical and computer to social and family.
It is a major building block of one of our all-time favorite tools, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)…more on that later. Putting it in the simplest terms, it means, THE MOST FLEXIBLE PERSON WINS.
Sometimes we want more from life because what we have just isn’t working. We began wanting more from life because who we ARE just wasn’t working for us or anyone else. This reason is where the Law of Requisite Variety comes in.
You don’t have to start from scratch when you want more from life. You just have to start where you are and be flexible with the possibilities. Again, remember, THE MOST FLEXIBLE PERSON WINS.
When the GPS tells you that you missed your turn, you don’t have to go back home and start over. You only need to go back to where you made the wrong turn. You can also “recalculate” to where you can get back on your path and be on your way.
But, again, you don’t have to start over. You only have to be flexible about what happens next. This brings us back to the reason, the Law of Requisite Variety.
It is this flexibility that allows you to create more in life. Have you ever discovered something you would have never found had you not been lost?
Have you ever got off the planned or well-worn path and found a more scenic route or a shortcut? Isn’t it a great idea to end every prayer and intention with “this or something awesome I haven’t thought of yet?”
Happy Accidents.
Happy accidents happen all the time, but we have to be flexible to change as we find a change is needed. So often, the most upsetting thing we tell ourselves is, “This isn’t how this was supposed to be.”
A fun book on this topic is Happy Accident (Click here to get your copy). It follows the rules of improve and how they can be effective in your life.
However, sometimes it’s precisely how it is supposed to be because it really is the best thing that could happen. We just don’t know it yet. Maya Angelou’s words come to mind. She said,” I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way they handle these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.”
She also said, “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”
We just can’t help but add one more of her famous words of wisdom, “Life is about how you handle Plan B.”
If knowing we have a “Plan B” makes most of us feel safer, why do we mind so much when we have to use it? What if taking that detour is a reason, maybe even the way for getting more from life?
Want a great reminder along with a great conversation piece? Get a piece of paper and write The Law of Requisite Variety. Put it somewhere you can see it every day. It will inspire flexibility when you are wanting more from life.
It will remind you why wanting more from life is a really great thing. It will also make you look very geeky and smart to all your friends. Then, when they ask what it means, you have a great opportunity to share, THE MOST FLEXIBLE PERSON WINS.
So There Are Your 4 Reasons Why Wanting More From Life Is A Really Good Thing.
In a nutshell, these reasons push you to look at your life and ask, “Why?” They also make you ask, “Why not?” Why couldn’t you be that or have that? Why couldn’t you do that?
These reasons make you reevaluate things with new eyes so that you don’t just get comfortable with “It’s good enough, I guess.” They help keep you from missing out on something that would have incredible adventure or meaning for you.
Again, from the words of our inspiring teacher, Maya Angelou, “Do the best you can till you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

They lead us to hope, possibilities, and a fire under our butt to live life by design instead of default.
In our blog 4 Reasons Wanting More From Life Is A Really Great Thing message, these are the Pixi-Pebbles that came to mind.
Just a little inspiration to get you from here to there.
We’ve had our turn of playing this song over and over. The words say it all.
