Our world is moving fast. It’s an incredible (and sometimes scary) time to be alive. However, choosing a Balanced Perspective can make things feel less frightening and easier to navigate. So, what’s a Balanced Perspective? Well, in the teeter totter world of this and that, it’s a more grounded way of looking at things.

It’s a perspective that helps you feel more anchored in your day-to-day experience. It’s a place to find solid ground to stand on when things seem to be changing too fast and moving in unfamiliar ways. It really is a beautiful time to be alive, and we REALLY are going to be okay. But how do we ride the teeter totterer of world events, social change, and our own version of life when it can sometimes feel like it’s a balancing act just to keep up?  7 Clear and Easy Steps When You Feel Stuck In Life

It All Seems To Be Moving So Fast!

Things seem to be moving so fast because they ARE moving so fast. It took 1,500 years for our human knowledge to double the first time. By 1900, our human knowledge had doubled every ten years. By 1940, it had doubled every 25 years. By 2013, it had doubled every 18 months and was getting faster and faster.

If it feels like you live in a teeter totter world that is spinning fast, it’s because you are. Change is scary. New ways of doing things are scary, and new stuff is scary. But it’s also exciting to be alive in a time of growing technology, a changing world, and being part of history.

I May Be Too Tired For This.

Yeah, we know…after the happenings of the last few years, we are all a little tired of being part of history. But…here we are. So, how do you find a Balanced Perspective in a world that is moving quickly and determinedly? You find a way of navigating that feels real and helps you feel safe while allowing you to grab a surfboard and ride the wave of… “Here we go!”

How about a few steps to show you how to keep your footing when the ground feels like it’s moving beneath your feet? Let’s start here.

Tone It Down.

Many people are crispy around the edges right now. It might look like anxiety, or it could simply look like being worn out. There is a reason for that. Don’t you think keeping up with everyone and everything in the world is a lot of work? That’s precisely what we are doing when we keep up with one-two-maybe three forms of social media and have four news outlets pinging our phones.

Besides doom scrolling, we keep up with everyone we know and many people we don’t. We are also aware of everything happening in every city …on the planet. So what if you toned that noise down a little?

You can be an aware and responsible human being without staking out everything going on with everyone…everywhere. How do you tone it down? Put down the phone. Turn off your alerts and stop being afraid you will miss something. We promise you that you won’t miss out on anything you need to know. If it’s important, someone will tell you, or it will be on the flat screen when you walk into the bank, the dentist’s office, or the carwash. 7 Clear and Easy Steps When You Feel Stuck In Life

Turn It Up.

Instead of social media and news, turn up what makes you feel alive but calm, and…we’ll say it…happy. This is where technology can serve in a big way. Fill your phone up with playlists, audiobooks, and music apps. Learn a new language.

Listen to the classics (music and books) and learn how to do something you don’t know how to do. Start some Pinterest Boards filled with things that really matter to you. Get some good earbuds and play your tunes, books, and podcasts.

This will result in you being full of the things that feed you instead of things that drain you. Don’t be surprised if you are more relaxed, know fun and valuable things you didn’t know before, and maybe even be able to speak Spanish.

This isn’t you being self-absorbed or taking a “Don’t bother me with the truth” attitude. This will be you genuinely having something to offer when there are actions steps to take and solutions to find. You can’t give what you don’t have. Fill yourself up, and you will have what is needed when paying attention and getting something done.

Is This The Best And Highest Way To Look At This Situation?

Most fitness coaches will tell you that the more your body moves, the more it will want to move. The more you lay on the couch, the more your body will want to be still. It’s the same with what you put in your mind and nervous system. You find what you are looking for, and what is already there is looking for more of itself.

Fred Rogers from the Mr. Roger’s children’s television show used to talk about his mother. He said she told him, “Always look for the helpers” in a challenging time. This isn’t just saying, “Look on the bright side.” This is saying look for those making a difference. Watch for those who are helping. Be soothed by the fact they are there, and become one yourself if you like.

Looking at things in the best and highest way doesn’t mean being oblivious to the problem. It means being in the frequency and insight of the solution. So, whatever is happening in THE world or just YOUR world, ask yourself, “Is this the best and highest way to look at this?” You don’t ask this so that you can be a positive person. You ask it to become more effective at solutions and avoid getting stuck in the problem.

Is What I’m Thinking Both True and Practical?

First, we must admit that we think all sorts of things daily that just aren’t true. We stew on things that have never happened anywhere but in our heads. We imagine what other people are thinking. We have conversations with loved ones and co-workers without them being there. We put words in their mouths and thoughts in their head when the conversation only happened in our minds.

A Balanced Perspective comes when you can step back and away from anything making you feel wonky and ask, “Is this true, and does it make sense.” A great reference to read more about this is Byron Katie’s book Loving What Is-Four Questions That Can Change Your Life (Click here to get your copy).

Get Off The Teeter Totter.

Getting off the teeter totter doesn’t mean finding a cave with wifi and hiding in it. It means making a solid intention to stay below the radar and above the drama. What if you were more picky about what you allowed in your bubble? As Gandhi said, “I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet.”

What if you become proactive about what you let wander around in your head? What if you proactively toned down the rhetoric of the internet and the drama of the news? What if you instead filled your mind with things that give you a Balanced Perspective and a sense of peace?

Then what if you stopped giving air time to the blah blah blah in your head that you know you are already tired of? What if you just got off the teeter totter and stepped onto the solid ground of a Balanced Perspective? This would be a perspective you chose, cultivated, and lived instead of the internet and the news telling you what you should be afraid of.

How Will I Know I’m In A Place of Balanced Perspective?

You will know you are in a place of Balanced Perspective when you realize, as Paulo Coelho said, “If it costs you your peace, it’s too damn expensive.” It happens when you know you don’t have to be jerked around by the mood of your surroundings. YOU get to decide what is in your brain, and you can evict anything that is taking up good space in your mind (especially if you are the one who put it there). 7 Clear and Easy Steps When You Feel Stuck In Life

You will still be aware that there is…stuff…going on in the world. You may still have other people’s opinions around you, but you can keep it in a Balanced Perspective. You also still might have weird thoughts that aren’t true. But you can return to your steps and know you can replace your thoughts with another thought.

Teeter totters are fun when you choose them. But if you are tired of that balancing act, remember where the solid ground is and the Balanced Perspective that can live in the quiet mind. There is a world of tools out there if you need help. There is a big bunch on our page, Enchanted Perspectives. You’ve Got This!
