It can happen to any of us at any time. It might happen at work or a family dinner. But how do you reset your energy when people overwhelm you? It can be an individual who is just…too much. Maybe these “overwhelming people” aren’t even in the room. Sometimes, we can feel overwhelmed by the people on social media or the evening news.

You know that feeling of… “This is a lot.” It might feel like anxiousness or maybe annoyance. Sometimes, it feels like tiredness or heaviness. Your first instinct might be to just get out of there. If that isn’t possible, the next hope might be just to tighten up or shut down so no one can get in. How To Improve My Energy Field? 5 Fabulous Ways To Really Feel Better

How do you reset your energy when you feel hijacked by someone else’s personality, problems, or attitudes? How do you reset when too many people are just too many people? Let’s talk about ways to help prevent getting overwhelmed and tips for how to reset your energy when it’s already happened.

Reset Your Energy When People Overwhelm You Tip #1: Know It’s OK To Be Proactive And Just Say, “No.”

Connection and interaction with others are part of good mental and emotional health. But that means being with people you connect with and enjoy their company. This doesn’t mean that every invitation to come across your cellphone needs to be accepted.

There can be very nice and perfectly fine people you don’t enjoy. There are social events that you had just as soon not be there. That is OK. It seems like the more self-aware we become, the less small talk and shallow conversation we are comfortable with sharing. Suddenly, talking about the weather, work, and other people seems sort of… pointless.

It’s also OK to decline invitations from people when you just don’t like how you feel with them. We aren’t suggesting that you become a hermit who doesn’t like being around anyone. But there isn’t anything wrong with being discerning, selective, and…picky. This doesn’t make you a bad person. It makes you self-aware and self-supportive. So, the easiest way to reset is to protect your energy from the start. How To Improve My Energy Field? 5 Fabulous Ways To Really Feel Better

Reset Your Energy When People Overwhelm You Tip #2: Know What You Are Getting Into, So You Can Plan Your Reset.

There is nothing wrong with asking for more information before you accept an invitation. It is okay to ask, “Who’s coming?” “How many are you expecting?” or “How big a deal is this?” You can also ask if “Bossy Bob” will be there.

Even at work, asking questions so you know how many people will be in your face is fair and fine. Maybe you have options, and perhaps you don’t. However, there is nothing wrong with being informed so you can be prepared.

Once you know what you are getting into, you can plan your reset. Things like having some scheduled quiet time after being “Peopled Out.” It’s okay only to do one thing that takes a lot of people skills this week. Then you can reset and tell everyone else a gracious, “No thanks.” It’s also OK to limit your time with “Bossy Bob” and plan a chat with your favorite person immediately afterward to reset your energy.

Reset Your Energy When People Overwhelm You Tip #3: Bubble Up To Keep Your Energy In And Other People’s Energy Out.

Your energy field extends several feet from your body (some even say miles). But everyone else’s energy field extends that far out too. There is such a thing as energy hygiene. You can create an emotional/mental bubble around you to keep your energy in and other’s energy out. This makes an instant reset when people overwhelm you.

  • Start by standing with your feet solidly on the ground. Put your hands on your heart and begin taking deep breaths.

  • Picture a light in the center of your chest.

  • Now, picture that light getting bigger until it fills your chest.

  • Then, picture that light going down through the center of your core and both legs.

  • Picture that light coming down through the bottom of your feet and creating a corkscrew of light coming out of each foot and swirling into the ground, anchoring you into the soft earth.

  • Next, let that light come up all around you on all sides like a snow globe. Finally, it gathers at the top of your head and then drops down through your head and floats back to your heart.

You now have a bubble of your own light working like an energetic force field around you. This bubble (your bubble) can work as a deterrent to excess people energy. You can also use it to reset your energy when people overwhelm you. In this bubble, you are in your own little space with only yourself, no matter how many people are in the room.

Reset Your Energy When People Overwhelm You Tip #5: Head To Your Favorite Play List.

Music is a powerful entity. It can excite, calm, motivate, and soothe you. Music is also a time machine. It can take you back to a quieter day or a sizzling night. It can remind you of when you felt like you had it together and all was well.

So, this makes music an incredible reset tool when people overwhelm you. Either to psyche yourself up for a lot of people or to calm yourself down when you are feeling overwhelmed. We also live in a time when it is often acceptable to have earbuds in a crowd of people. So if you need them, use them.

Create a playlist of calming and soothing music to reset after a day with too many people. Create a playlist for pumping yourself up when handling a challenging crowd or an individual. Then, make a playlist for when you will be in your little energy bubble with your earbuds. This can feel like having your blanket fort in a crowded room. Reset Your Energy When People Overwhelm You Tip #6: Find Your Center With Deep, Calm Breaths (No One Will Notice).

Some times we forget to breathe without even realizing it. We take short, shallow breaths instead of all the clean oxygen we can get. Add a stressful situation, and our breath becomes barely a sip of sweet air. You tighten up even more when there are too many people around you. If an annoying individual is sucking all the air out of the room, it will sometimes feel like you can’t think, move, or breathe.

So breathe!!! Take nice, deep, slow, deliberate breaths through your nose and out through your mouth. Don’t wait till you feel energetically overwhelmed. Start that breathing while you’re still in the parking lot. Then, consistently keep that deep breath going. Shhh….it will be our little secret. No one is going to notice what you are doing. Breathing is simple and powerful. Just…breathe…

You Can’t Always Avoid People Who Overwhelm You, But You Don’t Have To Be Overwhelmed.

Remember that you are in charge of you. Protect your personal power and reset your energy if anyone oversteps your boundaries. Be proactive and be aware of what feels good and what you can do without. Allow yourself to avoid going along with the crowd, especially if you don’t like crowds.
